Many of us assume that drinking a diet soda is a healthier choice than drinking regular soda, but scientific research continues to suggest otherwise. In fact, studies investigating artificial sweeteners (such as aspartame, sucralose/Splenda, saccharin, and acesulfame-K/Sweet One) actually suggest that the opposite may be true.
A new publication reviewing more than 20 recent scientific studies on artificial sweeteners found that drinking even just one diet drink a day significantly raised the chance of developing serious health concerns such as heart disease, obesity, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome.
The author of the article, a neuroscientist at Purdue University, argued that evidence of the health hazards of artificial sweeteners should cause us to expand the current advice to limit the intake of sugars to include limiting our intake of artificial sweeteners as well.
Particularly concerning is the fact that artificial sweeteners have been steadily increasing in our food supply, and are often hidden where you’d least expect them—like in your family’s multivitamins!
Children’s multivitamins are often the worst offenders—many popular children’s chewable and gummy vitamins contain artificial sweeteners, sugar, or both. But adult multivitamins and supplements (particularly chewable, gummies, and effervescent drink mixes) often contain sugar and/or artificial sweeteners as well. Not to mention the other additives like colors and preservatives that can also be lurking in your vitamins.
Since we think that the last place you need more sugar or artificial sweeteners is in your multivitamin, we choose to sweeten Oxylent®, Children’s Oxylent®, and Prenatal Oxylent® with pure stevia.
Stevia is a natural, healthier alternative to both artificial sweeteners and sugar. In contrast to both artificial sweeteners and sugar, stevia has a centuries-long history of safe use. To read more about why stevia is a better choice than either sugar or artificial sweeteners, click here.
Because of our commitment to producing the healthiest multivitamins possible, we choose to avoid all sugar and artificial sweeteners entirely and instead use pure stevia in all our Oxylent multivitamins.
Each packet of Oxylent, Children’s Oxylent, and Prenatal Oxylent mixes with water to create a tasty sparkling drink that provides a full-panel multivitamin with every sip. All with no sugar, artificial sweeteners, GMOs, dairy, gluten, soy, preservatives, or anything artificial.
